False-grip Wrist-Prep
RE-/PREHAB: Fingers, wrists. forearms & elbows

THE WHAT:
For an optimal ‘false-grip’ (FG), the ability to achieve near-90° PASSIVE wrist flexion with a CLOSED fist goes hand in hand with developing STRENGTH in that range through supplementary training. This is from the perspective that if the range is not available even “passively”, then the potential to STRENGTHEN it toward building a stronger FG is also limited.
Greater closed-fist wrist-flexion is specifically valuable for work on the gymnastics-rings, then, because it allows for more of the palm to start already on TOP of the rings when they are initially gripped. This is ultimately the main purpose of the FG form in the integrated ‘Muscle-up’ transition, as starting with the hands ALREADY above the ring eliminates the need for a grip-change between ‘pullup’ and ‘dip’ forms.

The rings ‘False-grip’
THE WHAT & HOW
This is a grip in which the pisiform (bony protrusion in the ulnar-corner side of the palm) of the hand is always supported ABOVE the inside of the gymnastics rings. As a result, the ulnar-side of the wrist/forearm is also TIGHTLY contacted with the rings throughout.LEARN MORE (...

'False-grip' (FG) Development
THE WHAT:
'False-grip' (FG) development is oriented around two connected capacities: mobility, and strength development. This is because the 'FG' is mechanically at its strongest when a toward 90° angle of wrist-flexion is available when gripping the rings (i.e. it is maximally "closed"), but at ... -
False-grip (FG) ring-rows
THE WHAT:
A basic ring-row (HORIZONTAL pull) variation performed using a 'false-grip', for the purpose of its strength & conditioning either preparatory to, or in conjunction with, false-grip VERTICAL-pulling contexts.Note that a false-grip SHORTENS the distance required to pull the THUMBS-TO-C...
