End-range Neck-rotations
RE-/PREHAB: Shoulders, scap & neck

1m 28s
THE WHAT & HOW:
A simple yet extremely effective context, practiced regularly & consistently, for developing range of motion & “superficial” neck-restrictions (often experienced as tightness in the neck, shoulders, and/or jaw). In execution, of significant importance is that the pattern is NOT simply drawing a circle with the head, but it also incorporates end-range TRANSVERSE rotation (i.e. looking left & right).
To frame this trajectory of motion and keep its available range measurable, the objective of working toward “sitting” the CHIN in the SUPRA-CLAVICULAR FOSSA (i.e. the “depression” behind the collar-bone) is given, and must be adhered to.

'Circle of the neck/shoulders'
THE WHAT:
Whilst also a strength ("core") and mobility (neck & posterior-chain) development frame, ultimately these capacities develop within the practice of a fundamental floor-contact transitional movement (i.e. negotiating the head/neck against the floor as the feet/hands remain ANCHORED).It...

'Neck loading' & foot/shoulder "anchors"
THE WHAT:
A fundamental floor-contact concept which allows for displacement of the body in space in relation to shoulder and foot "anchors". In its combination of stepping and rolling, the context marries both OPEN kinetic-chain (extremities moving in relation to body) and CLOSED kinetic-chain (b... -
Fundamental hanging contexts
THE WHAT & HOW:
A simple reason for the perspective and practice of hanging is that, as with the fundamental resting or 'passive' squat, it is a movement pattern built into our physiology which becomes not only neglected, but culturally & socially discouraged as we become adults. The disuse of s...
