THE WHAT:
The mighty ‘Stalder-press’. For those with the ‘Straddle press-handstand’ in sights, or even already proficient in multiple reps, there is a voice in the back of the mind which knows that the work is never really complete until the full ‘Stalder’ has been “unlocked” – and for good reason too.
Whilst the ‘Straddle press-HS’ can be effectively “cheated” with mobility (a strong middle-splits & compression can ensure MINIMAL “planching” is experienced in execution, and therefore much less straight-arm strength expressed), in initiating the press from a ‘High-straddle’ hold, avoidance of the “planche” phase is mechanically UNAVOIDABLE. This is why it is possible to be able to perform even up to 10x reps of press-HS, and yet not a single ‘Stalder’.
