THE WHAT:
The practice of 'emptying' is essentially one of locating and releasing unwanted tension in the body. It is grounded in a perspective that whilst tension in its many forms grows like weeds in a garden (a result of our general living conditions and habitual practices), the "weeding", or EMPTYING of tension requires deliberate attention to manage and mitigate the accumulation of negative e/affect.
Whilst this sequence is fundamentally a somatic practice, the perspective of excessive tension resulting in "energy blockage" does find commonality, if not even correlation, with psycho/emotional well-being. 'Emptying' as an habitual practice, therefore, has significance and value beyond the physiological alone. The benefits of its consistent investment are therefore to be judged by each practitioner for themselves.
This specific sequence represents YEARS of practice. No single element is more/less significant than another, nor deserving of more/less attention. Effective 'emptying' requires the practice of fundamental movement patterns & coordinations which take time and investment. Like all valuable tools, the more they are practiced the better they will SERVE you for the purpose you apply them to. It is therefore also a REFLECTIVE practice, as it allows you to observe your changing experience & relationship with it over time.
From a more "practical" perspective, this sequence opens a space to focus and "centre" yourself both before and after physical practice, serving as a familiar "entry" and "exit" point, when used consistently as such. Much individual research can also be done on the benefits of "tremoring" and "shaking" techniques in the ongoing treatment of a multitude of traumas, as well as the maintenance of 'quality' in musculoskeletal tissues. It also facilitates transition of the autonomic nervous system between para-/sympathetic, cumulatively helping you ask & answer the ongiong question: "how am I feeling/moving today"?
00:05 - Standing form & structure, being 'grounded', soft knees & soft hips
01:57 - Knee-initiated 'tremor', transmitting into pelvis
02:42 - Incorporating wrists, elbows, shoulder & neck exploration
04:10 - 'Weight dropping' (3x intensities)
06:27 - Kidney taps 'level' 1 (head to FRONT)
06:51 - Kidney taps 'level' 2 (follow eyes through rotation around axis)
07:20 - Kidney taps 'level' 3 (turn on BALL of foot for further rotation)
